Book Review: Santa's Slip Up by Raven Howell

I'm excited to share my review of Santa's Slip Up with you today as part of the WOW! Women on Writing blog tour.

About the Book

It’s the night of Halloween. Spooks, spiders, and skeletons abound, the full moon glows – so who is cheering, “Ho, ho, ho!”? Apparently, Santa Claus has come to town, though it’s the wrong time of year! But what could be a bad situation, is wittingly handled with humor, and there’s a new winner at this year’s Halloween parade

My Review

In the sea of Halloween stories that have often tread the same familiar paths, Santa's Slip Up is a delightful detour, blending the eeriness of All Hallows' Eve with the heartwarming cheer of Christmas. What a great way to combine two of the most beloved holidays into a single story!

From the beginning, readers are ushered into a setting befitting of a spooky October night, with the usual suspects: spiders, skeletons, and spooks that seem to dance right off the pages. But just when you think you've settled into a conventional Halloween tale, a jolly "Ho, ho, ho!" echoes, jolting the narrative in an unexpected yet thoroughly enchanting direction.

This clever twist is what sets Santa's Slip Up apart. It toys with readers' expectations, pivoting from frights to festive fun with grace and wit. The rhyme scheme throughout is both catchy and playful, making it a joy to read aloud – a factor that both parents and educators will surely appreciate.

The vibrant illustrations and captivating turns of phrase are reminiscent of classic picture books, yet Santa's Slip Up boasts a unique charm of its own. Beyond the fun and whimsy, there's a subtle message about adaptability, teamwork, and making the most of unforeseen circumstances. The characters' response to Santa's unseasonal visit is heartening and lends depth to the story.

Santa's Slip Up by Raven Howell is a holiday treasure waiting to be discovered. Whether you're a fan of ghouls or garlands, this book promises to add a dose of joy and jingle to your Halloween festivities. Highly recommended for those looking to infuse a twinkle of Christmas spirit into their October reads.
